  • Happy Memorial Day!

Budge Huskey, President and COO of Coldwell Banker, wishing you a Happy Memorial Day weekend!

As it is with each year, the approach of Memorial Day causes one to devote time to reflect on what’s truly important in our lives as Americans. Liberties that we may too often take for granted suddenly come into focus and, with it, respect and admiration for the heroic actions of those who are ultimately responsible for the lives we lead and the opportunities we are so fortunate to enjoy.

As a citizen who has never served in the armed forces, I can’t claim to understand the experience and bond of those men and women who serve or have served this great country over the years as members of the armed forces. Attempts to envision their world, especially in times of active combat, are mere mental exercises lacking  the benefit of perspective of the implications, risk, and the ultimate price of success versus failure  which rests on every action; every decision, great and small. The idea of a personal experience with such profound impact on an entire country and both present and future generations is, to me, almost incomprehensible. And yet, it occurs each and every day.

We live in a time in our history where politics and public discourse appear progressively polarized and consensus on seemingly any topic of substance necessary to move our country forward elusive. It is, therefore, heartening to have at least this one special day on which something greater rises above it all. A day on which there is unconditional and unwavering support for the selflessness and courage of those in uniform.

On this Memorial Day, Jim and I ask that you join us in recognizing those who not only have given of themselves for everything we have, but who also represent the true spirit of collaboration, teamwork, commonality of goal, and country before self which is truly the very best of America.

    Regards,

    Budge Huskey
    President and Chief Operating Officer

Bank of America Offers Relocation Assistance

Bank of America, one of the largest banks in the United States of America, is now offering delinquent homeowners up to $30,000 in relocation assistance if they work with the bank to obtain a pre-approved short-sale price, before submitting purchase offers on new homes.  Bank of America hopes this program will work to encourage distressed homeowners to explore a short sale process  as a practical option for avoiding foreclosure.

In order to be eligible for the relocation assistance payments, homeowners must initiate the pre-approval process with Bank of America by the end of 2012, and close by Sept. 26, 2013. In addition,  short sales that have already started,  but have not closed may be eligible for the program.

This program will be available to homeowners across the United States.  Homeowners  who believe they may be eligible for Bank of America’s short-sale relocation assistance program may contact program specialists at (877) 459-2852.

The Skagit River Poetry Festival – La Conner

The 7th Biennial Skagit River Poetry festival will be held May 17-20th, 2012, in La Conner, WA.

Opening night includes a Poet’s Table Dinner from 5:30- 7:30 p.m. for $75 and a Celtic themed night of poetry, music, and storytelling from 8-11 p.m. for $25.  Tickets can be purchased at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/224999 or at The Next Chapter Bookstore in La Conner.

The Skagit River Poetry Project’s mission is to bring poets into classrooms throughout Skagit County to promote literacy and an appreciation for language.  The Skagit River Poetry Project began in 1998,  as a result of a conversation between leaders from seven rural school districts in Skagit County, Washington. These leaders hoped to create a project that would support our high literacy standards with the arts.  From 1998 to the present, over 50 Skagit county teachers a year have hosted resident poets.
