Anacortes Community Garden Open House

The Anacortes Community Garden is getting ready to start it’s second garden at the Mt. Erie Elementary School.  They will be holding an Open House on October 16th from 1-3pm at the 29th Street Garden with raffle prizes, proceeds to help build the second garden.  They will also have snacks from this year’s harvest.
 
Please stop by the garden behind the Bowling alley (29th street and Commercial) on October 16th and help them raise funds to build their second Garden.  They will have a sign up sheet there if you would like to participate in building the next garden later in the year.  The Anacortes Community Garden is in the process of organizing efforts and will be contacting volunteers soon.  You can also reply to Sylvia Cooper at ssylviac@yahoo.com with your contact information and she will add you to the list to help build this garden.

Beer on the Pier!

Oktoberfest in Anacortes!
October 7th 5-9 p.m. & October 8th 12-6p.m.

Taste 30 Breweries in just 2 days at the 2nd annual Oktoberfest in Anacortes! Beer on the Pier will be held at 1st and Commercial at the Port Warehouse in Old Town Anacortes.  Advance tickets will be available  from the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce office Friday October 7 from 9-2p.m.!  Tickets purchased in advance are $20 or you can pay $25 at the door.  Cost of ticket includes 6 tasting tickets and a keepsake festival glass.

There will be live music and a variety of yummy food vendors with festival style seating.  The event promises to be a highlight for all  beer lovers so make sure to check it out!

Swan announces Woman of the Year Finalists!

Congratulations to the five SWAN Woman of the Year Finalists!

The year’s finalists are Julie Blazek, a partner in HKP Architects; Gail Bruce, Director of Counseling at Skagit Valley College; Peggy Flynn, pflynn+associates consulting; Rebecca Spurling, Environmental Superintendent Tesoro Refinery; and Valerie Stafford, Communications Director United General Hospital.  The five women representing various business and community interests throughout Skagit County were chosen from a large group of well qualified women.  

A traditional judging social was held on September 22 at Max Dales Steak and Chop House in Mount Vernon.  The SWAN finalists were interviewed individually by the judging panel.  The recipient’s name will be held in secrecy until the announcement at the awards banquet on October 20, 2011.  The banquet will be held at the Skagit Resort and Casino in Bow.  Tickets are available for purchase at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/199184.  Be sure to get your ticket today!
