Skagit Veterans Parade MTVVeterans DayLooking for a way to express gratitude for our Veterans? On this Veterans Day let us remember the service of our Veterans. Join us as we honor all who have served.

Honoring the sacrifices many have made is the foundation of Veterans Day. There are two local Skagit Valley events to celebrate our Veterans.

The Skagit County Veterans Day Parade and Heritage Plane Flyover will be held on Saturday, November 10th at 11am. The parade route is along Fairhaven Avenue in Burlington. This local Burlington event features activities before the parade including a pancake breakfast plus military and art displays.

The Anacortes Veterans Day Celebration is on Monday, November 12th at 11am and will be located at 100 Commercial Avenue in Anacortes. This local Anacortes event highlights EMCEE Dan Worra while music will be provided by Skagit Swing. Light refreshments will be served.

Local Anacortes Events Happening this Weekend

Farmers MarketAre you craving seasonal, fresh, Skagit County local produce? The fall weather in Anacortes is delightful and the Anacortes Farmers Market has what you desire! This is the last weekend to shop at the Anacortes Farmers Market this Saturday from 9am to 2pm. This local Anacortes event is located at the Anacortes Historic Depot on the corner of 7th St. and R Ave.

Some selections of available fresh, local produce this fall season includes apples, pears, artichokes, beets, Brussels sprouts, celery, eggplant, garlic, grapes, kohlrabi, onions, potatoes, peppers, pumpkins, squash, shallots, turnips, and rutabaga.

The local Anacortes Farmers Market will also be hosting an Anacortes Holiday Market and an Anacortes Winter Market. Ghouls and Gears GalaAre you in need of an evening out with some drinks and dancing? Looking for a way to support local youth programs in Anacortes but are unsure where to start? You will be welcomed with a signature drink and are encouraged to socialize, network and scan through the silent auction. SCBIs fall your favorite time of year? Enjoy falling leaves and fresh crisp air? This local Skagit Valley event is made just for you. Fall for the magic of the Skagit Community Band as they present songs, theatrical sound tracks and dances that celebrate this season.

The Skagit Community Band opens the concert season with Incantations and Dance to be held on October 26th at La Conner Maple Hall, 104 Commercial, and also on October 28th at Anacortes Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1300 9th St.

Works include “Sorcery Suite”, “Creatures of Dreams”, and much more! Admission to either the La Conner even or the Anacortes event is free.

Mother’s Day Concert at Meerkerk Rhododendron Gardens Event Starts: 12 pm Location: 3531 Meerkerk Lane-Greenbank, WA

Harper Tasche will be performing his 22nd annual concert performing folk music using antique instruments and specializing in the harp. This event is $10 and FREE for ages 15 and under. Dogs are permitted on a leash!

Brunch and Musical at McIntyre Hall- Events Starts: 12:30 pm Location: 2501 E. College Way-Mt. Vernon, WA

The Mother’s Day brunch will kick off this event followed by a performance of “Shrek The Musical”. Brunch is $25 and the performance is $15-10

Take Mom on a Hike!

The State Parks and Recreation Commission is offering a FREE admission to all State Parks! The discover pass will not be required, but will be required to access lands managed by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Department of Natural Resources.

Kick Off to Fishing and Boating Season

Boating and fishing season is upon us here in Skagit County! This is an exciting time of the year as more and more outdoor community events kick off in our area!

Get the kids geared up for some fishing and head to Northern State Pond in Sedro-Woolley for the Kids Fishing Derby on Saturday May 2. Children 14 and under will be able to bring their own bait and gear and go crazy fishing! Gates open at 7 a.m. with fishing starting at 8 a.m. This event is sponsored by the Wildcate Steelhead Club, along with the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, and General Administration Department of North Cascades Gateway Center. If you aren’t familiar with the area and need directions, here you go..Take HWY 20 East from Fruitdale Road, Left on Fruitdale approximately 1 mile on right hand side, look for signs along the way leading to the gate into the pond.

If you are a boater, the Swinomish Yacht Club in La Conner is holding their 40th Anniversary Opening Day Boat Parade also on Saturday May 2 at 3 p.m beginning at the North Basin. The theme for the parade is celebrating the 70’s and Jaws. If you are interested in participating in the parade, registration is Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the Clubhouse. Following the parade there will be a Potluck and an Awards Ceremony for prize winners. Music will be going all night long! This is event is located at 310 North 1st Street in La Conner.

We would like to wish everyone  a Happy Easter!

Here in Anacortes if you are looking for something to do for the Easter holiday, The annual Egg Dash is today at 6 pm! This event is located at Storvik Park this event is for ages 12 and under and is FREE! Kids will get the chance to collect plastic eggs filled with candy and other fun surprises! This event is rain or shine, please dress comfortably for rain!!

If you are looking for an indoor activity, you and your family can decorate eggs together Friday from 4pm-7pm and again on Saturday from 2pm to 5pm! This event is at the Sedro-Woolley Hometown Cafe located at 818 Metcalf Street. For only $9.99, you will be supplied with eggs, food coloring, stickers, crayons/markers and other decorations. The price includes a kid’s entrée and drink. $4.99 for each additional dozen Easter eggs. Parents will get 15% off menu items and specials. An R.S.V.P is requested but it is not required. There will have a coloring contest, pictures and prizes; come join the fun!

Project event – Burlington Teen Flashlight Egg Hunt!  The event will be held at the Whitmarsh Fields with support from the City of Burlington and Kiwanis.  The event is intended to provide a safe and fun activity for Burlington teens.  The H.U.B. Project (Help Unify Burlington) has a mission of uniting the citizens of Burlington in creating a safe and healthy place for our youth to grow and develop.  FREE EVENT

Skagit Valley Tulip Festival 2015

It’s that time of year here in Skagit County where the tulip fields are ready to display the beauty of Spring!

The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival is a premiere destination in the Pacific Northwest for many near and far! The breathtaking display of the RoozenGaarde and Tulip Town show gardens are an explosion of color.

If you are interested in admiring these gorgeous gardens, visit the them soon. This year, tulips bloomed way earlier than expected and forced Tulip town to open last weekend. Yes, in mid March!

Events include wine-tasting, viewing of the tulip fields, music, street fairs, tours of local businesses that highlight local agricultural products, self-guided bicycle tours, a fly-in at the local airport, and more!
