Is clutter making your home look messy and chaotic?

Opppss?

Living in a cluttered home is not only overwhelming but it can also impact you and your family’s quality of life. Clutter and chaos can contribute to an atmosphere of stress and anxiety in your home. Here are some tips to help declutter your home, simplify your life and re-gain control!

1. Slow Down: Don’t try to organize your entire home in a day! You will more likely become frustrated as the day goes by. Try to spend one hour a day organizing a room. You can even break it down further and spend a few minutes organizing a small space like a cluttered desk or counter. By completing one task a time you will have a visible progress and feel motivated to do more!

2. Designate & File: Correspondence & papers are the most common causes of clutter in a home because we place them everywhere – kitchen counters, desks and dressers. Designate a spot for them in your home. Create some folders with labels and file your bills & other important papers. This way you will always find them when you need them. Recycle what you don’t need! In a few weeks you will see the big difference this will make.

3. Get rid of things: Once you have decided what area to “attack” first, grab a couple of boxes or containers and keep them next to you. As you are clearing the area, throw in the box anything that you don’t need. Use one box for trash and the other for donations. If you have a sweater that you have not worn in 3 years, it is time to donate it. If you have a pile of magazines you haven’t flipped through since 2001, recycle them.

4. Avoid Distractions: Set aside a specific day and time to start working and commit to your task. TV is your biggest enemy, turn it off.

By following these steps, your home will not only be safer but healthier as well. A clean and clutter-free environment can help eliminate stress, falling risks and significantly reduce allergies in your home. So what are you waiting for? It is time to take control of your home.
