224 Acres of Forest Land Added to Anacortes Conservation Easement Program

An additional 224 acres of land will soon be added to Anacortes’ conservation easement program, which protects tracts in the Anacortes Community Forest Lands from being developed in the future.

The land consists of 160 acres southeast of Heart Lake that once belonged to Anacortes’ sewer facilities holdings, 40 acres west of Heart Lake Road and 20 acres to the south of Mount Erie recently purchased by the city, among other scattered acres within the forest lands.

While the city owns the forest lands, the conservation easements on 1,680 acres are already held by Skagit Land Trust, which also monitors the property to ensure restrictions are being followed.
