Planning Your Move

Moving seems to always take longer than home buyers or sellers expect.¬† We often find our clients do not allow enough time to complete the moving process and don‚Äôt realize how much ‚Äústuff‚ÄĚ they have accumulated.

Here are some stops to take to help you make the move to or from anacortes easier.

  • ¬†Decide how the move will be accomplished.¬† If you are considering hiring a professional moving company, call right away and get a bid. We suggest Viking Moving Services and they are happy to give you a free estimate. (You do not need to wait until your home has an accepted offer to gather the information your will need.) If you think you want to rent a U-Haul, also get the information on that. Once you know the moving date call and make your reservations!

  • ¬†How long will it take you to move? The average move takes over 200 hours! As soon as you decide to move start to de-clutter and pack, sell, or give away things. If you are using a professional mover they can pack the items and keep them in storage until you are ready to move. It makes the move easier and makes your home show better.

  • Note: If a professional moving company is moving you they will usually only insure those things they pack, but not the things you pack. You might want to let them repack the items you pack.

  • Once you have selected the new home, decide what furniture will go where. If there are pieces that won’t fit in your new house, then get rid of them before you pay to move them!

  • Plan to take time off of work, and/or hire help. There is always “more to it” than most people realize.

There is an on-line planner that gives you a week by week count down 8 weeks prior to your move.  You can personalize the planner and signup to have reminder emails sent to you.  The site is Move.Com.

Take time to plan your move and it will save time in the long run!
